In this last chapter on the miracles that Allah bestowed to Prophet Muhammad, may Allah grant and bless him peace, it is intended to take a look and briefly examine the issue. The miracles of the Prophet ﷺ are so many in numbers that whatever have been described in the foregoing chapters are merely tips on the iceberg. They encompass all stages of his life, beginning with his birth, childhood, period prior to the announcement by Allah about his prophethood, and the Makkan and Medinan periods of his assignments as the Prophet ﷺ.
Information relating to the birth of Prophet Muhammad, may Allah grant and bless him peace, have come from his mother Amina and other persons present at that time. It is reported that a radiant light emanated from his face. The lady in whose hand the child dropped at birth reported that she felt that the entire horizon had illuminated in which distant places like the castle of Greeks could be seen. It is further reported that the castles of Khusro, the king of Persia, shook and its balconies collapsed. The flame in Persia which was kept burning for thousands of years, round the corner, as a requirement of the religion of the fire-worshippers, extinguished.
In accordance with the custom of the Quraysh, it was decided to send the child to a place outside Makkah within deserts. This child was adopted by Haleema as a foster- mother. The blessings of the child for the foster-mother was evident from day one. Her weak donkey on which she had come to Makkah regained strength unusually. The quantity of milk in her breasts for baby feeding increased and she fed this blessed child along with her own baby at ease.
The primary miracle provided by Allah to the Prophet ﷺ is the Qur’an. It remained a miracle during the twenty-three years in which its verses were revealed and it continues to be a miracle for all times to come. All parts of the Qur’an are miraculous including its long and short words, phrases and chapters. No one could produce even anything like its short chapters like Al-Kauther (chapter 108). The challenges made by the Qur’an, including the following, remained unanswered.
“Let them produce a statement like it, if they should be truthful.” (52:34)
“And if you are in doubt about what We have revealed to Our servant, then produce a surah (chapter) like it.” (2:23)
The significance of this primary miracle of the Prophet, that is the Qur’an, is that it did not fade away with the death of the Prophet ﷺ. All the miracles of the earlier Prophets, may Allah bestow peace to them, were relevant only during their respective lifetimes. The Qur’an has always remained relevant and shall remain so in all the times to come.
