A delegation led by Qari Mueenuddeen, Convener Rajasthan Muslim Forum, a united front of leading Muslim organisations and institutions, met the SOG in-charge Mr. Lakshman Meena on June 3. The delegation comprised Er. Muhammad Salim, State President Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Secretary Nazimuddeen, Communist leader Mr. Waqarul Ahad, MLA Emaduddeen Khan alias Durru Myan, MLA Brij Kishore Sharma, MLA Mahir Azad, Mr. P.K. Sharma, State President PUCL, Ms. Kavita Shrivastava, Secretary General PUCL, Mr. Sawai Singh, Convener Sadbhav Manch Rajasthan, Mr. Habeeb Garnet, Chairman Maulana Azad Foundation, Mr. Shamsuddeen, President Human Welfare Society, Advocate Islamuddeen and others.
The delegation expressed deep concern over the attitude of the police and investigating agencies of suspecting only Muslims for the serial blasts in Jaipur. On the other hand, a wave of terror has prevailed among the Muslim community, especially Imams, Maulvis, Madrasa teachers and managements, all over the state. Till now about 500 people have been detained for investigation and astonishingly all of them belong to the Muslim community leaving aside 1 or 2. This has created panic and mental agony among the community.
The delegation wondered that while according to the law the police cannot detain anybody for more than 24 hours for investigation, in this case some of the detainees have passed more than 18 days in detention. The delegation conveyed the feelings of the common Muslims that this manner of investigation has caused distrust among them towards the police and investigating agencies and this image of them is not of any profit to the nation.
The delegation asked the SOG what was the reason that they do not suspect organisations other than those belonging to the Muslim community and why they do not investigate them also. What conclusion should one derive from this one-sided behaviour?
The delegation demanded that the people detained so far, should be released immediately if no significant proof has been found against them. The SOG Chief Laksman Meena assured the delegation that their grievances will be taken into consideration. The delegation also talked to the DG Police Mr. Bens and conveyed the feelings of the people and said that such a method should be adopted for investigation as may develop trust among the people towards the police and administration.
