Instead of rehabilitating the riots victims of Muzaffarnagar, the district administration has asked the homeless people living in various relief camps accepting cheque worth Rs. 5 lakh each as compensation to sign an affidavit claiming they will not return to their villages and never claim ‘moveable and immoveable properties’ in their villages. The behaviour of district administration came into light when the government of Uttar Pradesh is being blamed for its apathy towards the homeless people who have lost everything in the deadly violence that left over 100 dead and thousands displaced. Most of the people displaced due to the riots belong to minority groups and have sought shelter in the relief camps.
