The Fiqh Academy of India has urged the Muslims to play an active role in elections at both local and national level. It said that voting is a religious right of Muslims and they can make best use of this right without any hindrance. The academy held a three-day seminar at Amroha in Uttar Pradesh from 9 to 11 March to discuss different issues pertaining to the day to day life of Muslims including Islamic banking. The religious leaders said that in a secular country like India it has become necessary for the community members to take part in the process of formation of government. They allowed women as well to contest elections on the condition that they would not go against Islamic teachings. The academy also discussed the issue of women’s safety and security and demanded from the government to plug the very loopholes instead of mere enacting stricter laws.
