It all started when Mr.K. Chandrashekar Rao was once a Minister in the then Telugu Desam government in the United Andhra Pradesh before the Telangana State was separated. The people of Telangana were always ignored by the previous governments in all aspects. They were suffering from injustices and thus got frustrated. Some of them were attempting suicides since the educated youths were either deprived of government jobs and promotions as well as facing lack of development in the State, etc. All the government revenues being contributed by the Telangana were shifted to Andhra Pradesh for its development.
Mr.K. Chandrashekar Rao had been watching silently and noticed all these injustices meted out to the people of Telangana for a long time.He got angered and thought how to stop these injustices. There was no other way out for Mr.Rao except to resign to float a new political party. Thus, he successfully launched Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) for the people of Telangana.
More than one hundred people died due to suicides. Mr. Rao could not tolerate such un-natural deaths and went on ‘Indefinite Hunger Strike’ until a separate Statehood for Telangana was not declared. He was fighting with the previous governments at Centre for a separate Statehood under the banner of TRS.
Mr.N. Kiran Kumar Reddy was the last Congress Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh until March 2014.
However, the then Congress President Mrs.Sonia Gandhi, while taking a bold decision, had announced a separate Statehood for Telangana in 2014.
Mr. Rao, with his newly formed TRS contested in the 2014 Assembly elections and won the elections with a thumbing majority and became the first non-Congress government Chief Minister of Telangana State. During his first five-year tenure he implemented many welfare schemes for the people of Telangana. TRS got elected and won the 2019 Assembly elections for the second consecutive term and became Chief Minister of Telangana State second time to continue the legacy of TRS party.
Now Chief Minister Mr.Rao had recently changed his party’s name from TRS to Bharat Rashtra Samiti (BRS) to enter into the national politics. Indeed, the birth of BRS is due to the wrong policies of the ruling BJP’s NDA government since it came to power at the Centre in 2014.
The first meeting of BRS was held on 18th January 2023 in Telangana’s Khammam District. More than five lakhs people witnessed the meeting and shown the strength and solidarity with the BRS party. The Chief Ministers of non-BJP States of Delhi, Punjab and Kerala – Mr.Arvind Kejriwal, Mr.Bhagwant Mann and Mr. Pinarayi Vijayan besides UP’s Samajwadi Party President Mr.Akhilesh Yadav and C.P.I. leader Mr.D. Raja were present in the meeting.
All the Chief Ministers praised Mr.K. Chandrashekar Rao’s initiative and asserted to lead him as “opposition” to remove the ruling BJP government in the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. At the fag end of the meeting, Mr.Rao alongwith other CMs chanted “Abki Baar Kisan Sarkar”. Let us wait and watch the situation until the 2024 LS elections.
