There is absolutely no doubt that,in the wrong hands, corruption can be of invaluable use. No, I have not lost my mind and I certainly do NOT support corruption, far from it. But think about it. Corruption is the largest malady that afflicts the general society at large. No country is immune to corruption. As the inventor or maker of any product knows its own product the best, similarly Allah the Exalted knows the hearts of human beings very well. He knows very well indeed, that the most in-built vice in a human being, the mother of all lesser evils (the greatest evil is Shirk) is Greed. Anas bin Malik relates that Allah’s Apostle (peace and blessings of Allah be to him) said, “If Adam’s son had a valley full of gold, he would like to have two valleys, for nothing fills his mouth except dust. And Allah forgives him who repents to Him.” (Bukhari) Herein lies the crux of our problem. Greed is the strongest inbuilt trait of a human being. What’s more, unlike any emotion, this negative quality, shall we call it, defies age and indeed any other barrier.
Coming back to corruption, as I have said,in the wrong hands it has proved to be the greatest tool in the inventory of the Westerners from times immemorial. The concept is simple indeed. Politics breeds corrupt rulers and politicians. Since the public funds are at the disposal of their people, they simply whisk away elephantile sums into vaults of Swiss accounts. I was simply astounded upon coming to know that Indians have the largest savings in Swiss banks. They are not only corrupt (which they are known for), they don’t trust their own country’s banks! Anyway, the public money goes to waste and the politicians start decrying the public about their greediness and unwillingness to pay their due taxes properly while still eating away on public funds.
A time comes when they have to borrow. Ah, now you see it, here come in our western heroes, namely the I.M.F., banks of several rich countries as America, France, more notably these days Germany and a host of others which offer loans on high interest rates. Finally, unable to pay their way back, they are forced to borrow more and that’s that. Gentlemen, our picture is complete and we find yet another Greece in the Loan trap that the Jews have so well prepared. For it is they who started with this interest on loan business. This is how America,Israel And other “developed” contries have taken advantage of “third world countries”.
In order to hold them back from turning into competitive world powers and beome self-dependent, they have sought to hijack the world’s economy, in turn resulting in the present economic depression. There used to be a time when Banu Israel used to be the favourite of Allah the Exalted. They were the chosen people. But gradually they decayed into the worst kind of moral shambles in humanity. The problem we face however is that, in being deluded from the straight path, Satan likes to take as many as he can. Instead of controlling our nafs for our own good, we fall into his trap by taking the wrong way and doing as we wish.He proposes something that sounds beneficial to all. So, Satan comes up with a brilliant plan. Some people have more money. So they should get back something more if they give it to someone. After all, they could have spent that same money for other purposes. And hence started the system of Riba’a . This is the starting point of corruption. The Qur’ān and the Shari’ah have very wisely sought to cut short this malady.
A very important question raises its head: Now that corruption is widely spread, how should it be mitigated?
It is absolutely useless to call upon our politicians to chasten themselves of corruption. Therefore we have to rely on educating our common people. It is heartening to note that some civil society members have started fighting corruption in earnest. This might just prove to be a false mirage, however if they are not adequately supported by the general public. One such programme offers a generous reward if anyone brings videographic or audio evidence against corrupt officials. This has worked and such programmes,if implemented on a larger scale have the potential of cleansing our society off this malaise. The society needs to be educated in order to catch these people instead of paying the bribes. All corrupt officials are usually bullies of the first order and prey only on the weaker sections of the society so it is imperative to realise that in order to defythese corrupt officials we should have the courage to resist and be able to oppose their evil designs. Only if the society is able to believe that they can eradicate corruption and that it is wrong can we really end this corrupt yet prevelant practice.
