The kangaroo court of the Nouri al Maliki government in Iraq, which is functioning under the tutelage of the U.S, has handed down death sentence to Tariq Aziz, who has already become frail due to his detention since 2003. As the man who was at the helm of affairs in Iraq next only to Saddam Hussein, it is easy to link him to some of the alleged crimes perpetrated by the Baath Party. But the alacrity with which the Iraqi government is trying to silence the dying septuagenarian Iraqi leader is not difficult to understand. It is acting only under the directions of the U.S. to preempt any discomfiture to the latter, in view of the latest WikiLeaks revelations. As an ordinary human being, I want to ask a very simple question to Mr. Nouri al Maliki. He has decided to punish Tariq Aziz for his alleged role in the killing of 42 merchants in 1992 and forcible eviction of Kurds from Northern Iraq in 1980. Why did he lack the gumption to hand down death sentence to George W. Bush, who has invaded his country on the false pretext of possessing WMDs – maimed and killed over a million civilians – besides causing anarchy and irreparable misery to many others due to forcible displacement.
