Reports about ever increasing love and sex related crimes in India make a painful and disturbing reading. Every right-thinking person feels alarmed at this perversion and wants concrete steps to stop this destructive trend.
Headlines on front pages like “Predators target school kids in transit”, “Bus staff abuse 7-year old girl for months”, “School driver sodomises 3-year old boy” indicate that even innocent children are not safe from sex maniacs.
In national capital New Delhi there were two shootouts in three days related to love and sex affairs, claiming 10 lives. In both cases the enraged lovers having killed their victims finally killed themselves. There had been reports of very shameful cases of abusing young girls in Guwahati, Patna and several other places. Delhi is sometimes called the ‘rape capital of India’. There were several cases in which young girls were raped in moving vehicles. In some of these shameful cases videography was also done either to intimidate, malign or defame the victims. Some atrocious culprits were so bold and fearless that they loaded the shameful photographs of their sex crimes on social media as if to challenge the law and order machinery to catch them if they can. These events make a mockery of our religiosity, social sense and norms of civilized living.
History is a witness to this fact that uncontrolled sex has led to destruction of several civilizations. Our films and newspapers have also been playing their part in raising the pitch of sex frenzy. In every daily we come across a section of sexually explicit and titillating pictures and writings. It is very unfortunate that even nationally reputed English newspapers also have these pornographic supplements. Easy access to Internet has further increased the vulnerability of young and impressible minds to unhealthy material.
If we want to solve this dangerous problem, all out efforts on the part of government, social scientists, media and religious leaders are required. Not only our culture and family life but the very basis of our civilization is at stake. Nothing unhealthy should be allowed in the name of freedom of expression in literature and print and electronic media. Writings which promote or support unnatural sex, pre-marital sex and sex outside marriage must be crushed with an iron hand. Fear of God, respect for moral values and a sense of responsibility should be promoted as guiding principles of society. Stringent laws should be enacted to rein in the rogue elements who refuse to restrain their libido. Only these measures can save us from the impending catastrophe our civilization is facing.
