The ongoing painting exhibition titled “the naked and the nude” at the Delhi Art Gallery in the national capital which contains different angles of nude and naked female organs is extremely condemnable. And what is more condemnable is the justification given in favour of exposing nudity of a female body through paintings, calling it an art and the way to represent the time when the human being was cloth-less. Allowing this nudity, at the same time when the country is trying to find a solution to the regular occurrence of crimes and atrocities against women, reveals hypocrisy of the government. Also, it shows how serious our government is in regard of protecting women’s chastity. Where are the individuals and organisations that take their way to streets after each rape and molestation? Why do they not address the root causes of these crimes if they are so serious about protecting women’s honour? Or are they too making money out of the “commodity” of a female and “objectification” of her body?
