The way Mr. Narendra Modi has been handpicked from remote Gujarat right at the centre of Indian political scene has something deeply conspiratorial about it. The Modi backers would have us believe that he has achieved unprecedented development in Gujarat and if he could become the prime minister of the country, the “Gujarat model” would be replicated throughout India. The propaganda machines of the vested groups including many corporate groups and media houses are rabidly at work projecting Modi as the ‘much awaited messiah’. In fact, the people of the country have been taken for a ride. Any sensible person sees through the ploy of the Modi lobby to gloss over the atrocious aspects of his governance in Gujarat.
Who is unaware of the fact that under Modi Gujarat has been reduced to a Hindutva laboratory, where the Muslims feel themselves as second class citizens thrown as they are into despicable ghettoes? Does he have the moral high ground required to lead a country of billion plus people of diverse religious beliefs when he has failed miserably to uphold raj dharma even to the much smaller people of a province?
