The swine flu is sending shivers down the spines of all nations in the world, including the most advanced ones like the U.S., Russia and China. Though the authorities are taking preventive measures by checking the arriving passengers at the airports, what happens if the pandemic spreads to the gullible masses is anybody’s guess. Healthcare has become a prerogative for the rich, as years of privatisation in the health sector has reduced the public health centres in the country to a mess – utterly ill-equipped to handle even viral infections like chickun gunya. It is time the medical fraternity throughout the nook and corner of the country is advised to gear up to face the contingency.
