The world of Islam is passing through a very hard and trying period of a series of nerve-breaking turmoils of great magnitude. In some countries some groups are daggers drawn at each other. Old controversies and rivalries are being revived with added rancour. Egypt to Bangladesh this crisis can be seen with its fury and destructive power.
The new Pharaonic dispensation of Egypt has fully captured the seat of power and has been subjecting Islamists to mass death sentences unknown anywhere in recent history. Strangely enough, the Gulf monarchies, including that of the Servant of the Two Holy Shrines, have opened the strings of their money purses to support the ruthless regime. The Muslim world is appalled and unable to understand whether it is a well-thought-out policy or is being done under American pressure.
The great claimant of being the champion of liberty and promoter of democracy, America, is watching the massacre of innocents in Syria, and from time to time, putting explosives in the raging fire to strengthen the hands of its protégé Israel. Western neo-colonist forces are seen to be at the old game of dividing Iraq into three mutually conflicting countries of Shias, Sunnis and Kurds. The rekindling of old controversies of Sunnis and Shias has given rise to a war between two groups of countries in the Middle East. The Muslim Ummah sees that the human and material resources of the Ummah are being brazenly wasted leading to the disintegration of Ummah. It is desperately appealing to the leaders of Islamic world to put their heads together and resolve the conflicts and think in terms of saving Ummah from total destruction.
In this context, the sudden appearance of ISIL and its success in capturing large areas of Iraq is being viewed with great concern. It has tried to get sympathy by declaring its leader as caliph. Mercifully, this claim has been rejected outright by the Ummah.
The question is who is behind this group which has a well-oiled war machine. Has it been propped up with the help of America or being secretly supported by the arch enemy Israel?
The basic reason for this crisis after crisis is more our lack of shooraiyat and democratic thinking than the conspiracies of enemies. Unless we return to Islam, unite for Islam and defence of Ummah, and unless we renew our pledge to Allah that we would be faithful to Him and will be the standard bearers of Islam and convey Islam’s message to the whole of humanity, there is no hope of saving ourselves from total destruction.
