John Milton says ‘they also serve who only stand and wait’ (in his epic ‘The Paradise Lost’), while extorting people to be patient and consoling those under pressure. However, on certain occasions such as those existing in today’s societies, one can’t afford to forget that ‘God loves those who fight for His cause in ranks, as if they were a solid cemented structure’ (61:4) as also that ‘the pen is mightier than the sword’.
It is the first and foremost duty of every educated youth to seriously study and understand the causes of rising crime and corruption and leave no stone unturned to stop these monsters. See how Edward Snowden acted as a whistleblower despite knowing the persecution he is going to face! Unfortunately, most of our youth today long for luxury and watch pornography! Even the women’s organisations crying wolf every time a girl is assaulted, do not dare say a single word on the dresses and manners that provoke the opposite sex, which are the root cause of sex crimes.
There is urgent need for an all-out war against the rumour mongering media. If you study, there will be multitude of examples of mainstream media misleading, brought out by magazines likes Tehelka and Radiance. For example, a few weeks ago there was news about the arrest of a Kashmiri who entered Delhi with a plan of terrorist attacks. The coverage was done in every fabricated detail in every channel and every newspaper so much so that it was hanging in my mind till I laid my hand on a copy of Tehelka, carrying the actual story of the same ‘terrorist’ being let off after inhuman torture and finding no viable evidence of the charges that were levelled against the ‘terrorist’.
Whenever there is a bomb blast, the Muslim leaders and organisations, just as others, express their dismay and demand a free and fair investigation, identification of the culprits and a stringent and immediate punishment. These positive sentiments of Muslims are never given publicity nor any of these essential actions heeded to or taken up by any one of the government authorities or agencies.
The media today conducts election surveys, supported even by those parties, that till recently used to claim that you should not vote based on any party lines but on the merits of individual candidates. Then how election surveys conducted even before the candidates are finalised, are scientific?
Can’t today’s Indian youth shun the shadow of western culture? Should our life be simply a mere question of ‘belly and that below the belly’? Should we blindly accept that ‘everything is fair in love, in war and in politics’ or accept that ethics are part and parcel of everything we do in our life just as our ancestors did?
Whenever there is a talk about a welfare state, I remember Shri Gurajada Appa Rao (a great Telugu poet and freedom fighter), who said, a ‘nation does not mean soil, but its citizens’ (desamante matti kadoi, desamante manuju loi).
