Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam (TMMK) President M H Jawahirullah on July 6 appealed to UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi to honour the Congress party’s promise, made during the 2004 Lok Sabha elections, to provide exclusive reservation for Muslims in education and jobs at the national level.
Addressing a press conference at Tiruchirapalli, he said the assurance was included in the UPA’s Common Minimum Programme (CMP). He also urged the Centre to place the Justice Ranganatha Mishra Commission’s recommendations in Parliament and implement the same immediately.
The formal inauguration of the “Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam (MMK),” the newly-floated political party of the TMMK, would be take place along with the party’s state conference at Chennai after the rainy season. Efforts were on to register the MMK with the Election Commission, he said adding the party would contest in the ensuing Lok Sabha elections.
He also said the Centre should drop the Indo-US Nuclear Deal.
