A 38-year old Muslim, Mirza Rizwan Beg, on 7 April, committed suicide at his house in Aurangabad, Maharashtra. If his brother and other relatives are to be believed, he took the extreme step because he was being subjected to the torture of local Anti-Terrorist Squad for around six months. Some days earlier, the deceased was ordered to appear before the ATS, Mumbai. On return, his friend Firoz and others saw blood spilling out of his ears. The victim told them how he was tortured in the name of interrogation and was threatened of dire consequences if he would not follow the instructions of the officers. Besides, his friendsalleged that the deceased had received several threatening SMSs from the ATS. The deceased was the sole bread winner of his family. The Minority Commission has served notice to the Squad over the issue.
