Himsa parama dharmaha! and Asatya meva jayate! look like the guiding principles of today’s youth not only of India but the entire world in thinking, speaking and practice if one is to judge by the scale of brutal killings, agitations, lawlessness and moral bankruptcy, in open exhibition by both rulers and the ruled.

It is highly surprising that just because a coastal guard DIG contradicts a statement by Defence Minister, the former is issued a show cause notice and squarely blamed for his alcoholic habits, in a society, where sale and consumption of alcohol is encouraged just on the pretext that prohibition will affect government revenue.

It seems as if today’s youth, even those inducted in services, are made slaves to alcohol, by offering it as a prerequisite, to be made scapegoats and termed drunkards at convenience. It is a public secret as to how bottles of alcohol are distributed free of cost to lure voters during elections.

Hobnobbing between prohibition and the issue of contracts and licences to sell alcohol has become a regular feature of government policies. If, even after over sixty years of Independence, prohibition has not been adopted, and subsequently implemented in every state, who are to blame if not the governments at the centre and in states in equal measure?

Sporadic violence of all kinds like road rage, mob justice causing deaths on the spot have become rule of the day unfortunately even in states like West Bengal.

Money power, apart from being used for media propaganda, seems to have been used covertly or overtly for mafia operations as found necessary by politicians of all hues, who do not ever expressly deny involvement in such activities, directly or indirectly.

It is public secret that in sensitive areas incidents of communal violence like those that broke up after the assassination of former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi, are handiwork of organised groups of same affiliation working in the guise of different party workers at the outset, every time swinging into action at the drop of a hat. These mischief mongers are exposed and pinpointed repeatedly by hundreds of commissions appointed to probe thousands of incidents of communal violence since Independence.

It is a wonder as to why the leaders of Congress who had been in the saddle, enjoying full support of minorities and backward classes, both at the centre and in states virtually throughout the post-Independence era, never acted to ban all mushrooming extra-constitutional and anti-constitutional outfits and organisations, but persisted in treating them at par with organisations like Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, working well within the constitutional framework of India.

Now that they are dethroned and are toothless, these crooks keep barking at their political opponents, shedding crocodile tears on the sorry state of minorities and other downtrodden.
