As soon as Türkiye began to put the piece of cheese in the trap, the Syrian regime nodded and rushed to pick it up without hearing the ringing of the bell hanging on Fella’s neck.

The hungry mouse came out of its hiding place, naked and eager, giving up its antics, without showing any abstinence, hesitation, or reluctance. It took back what it had vomited in his speech in which it talked about a state of hostility with Türkiye which is more, according to it, than what is with Israel.

Several questions, doubts and fears surrounded the process of Turkish rapprochement with the Assad regime. It also appears as if it poses potential dangers to the Syrians and their revolution. But the crowd which talked all about these issues, missed the most important question about the blow of the new Turkish approach, and about the horror and strangeness of this transformation before its true manifestations become clear on the ground. The real question is: How does the Assad regime accept reconciliation with the conspirators against Syria? It is the question which we must focus on more than our focus on the new political reality, because the change in the regime’s position towards Türkiye is a shift farther from the change in Türkiye’s position towards the regime. We have to think about it if we accept that the new Turkish position is a reality and not just a manoeuvre undertaken by Türkiye for reasons related to its national interests.

Netanyahu to Make PLA Redundant

Since Netanyahu has formed a new government, in association with nationalist and religious right-wing parties, and fierce extremists, Israel has become uninterested in equivocation, that it is trying to write off the Palestinian entity, by dealing with the Palestinians without the authority’s help, by expanding the base of its Palestinian agents, and by increasing the granting of VIP cards to businessmen, contractors, merchants and public figures.

In any case, calls for curbing the Palestinian Authority, or not tolerating it, putting pressure on it and punishing it, or even getting rid of it completely, have become a trend in Israeli politics, with a government which includes Netanyahu, Smotrich and Ben Gvir. Perhaps what is worth mentioning here is that Netanyahu is the one who took the lead in this, as he is responsible for undermining the Oslo Accords, in his first term (1996-1999) and second term (2009-2021). In his third term he is completing what he started earlier.

This is Alon Pinkas, who explains the extent of the PA’s weakness and dependence on Israel, saying: “There is one currency, one tax cover and one foreign trade. 55 percent of Palestinian imports come from Israel, and 80 percent of Palestinian exports are destined for Israel. About 80,000 Palestinians work in Israel in constructions, and 15,000 in industries and services sectors. If anyone is looking for evidence and testimonies of de facto annexation, the Palestinian economy is the place to see it. The PA’s general annual budget is $5.7 billion which is 65 percent of the budget comes from taxes that Israel collects.” (Haaretz, 8/1). All of this information is well known to the Palestinian leadership.
