Two Amu Professors Honoured

At the 22nd anniversary of All India Congress of Zoology, Zoological Society of India organised a programme, at the University of Lucknow. On this occasion two of the professors of AMU were felicitated with prestigious awards for their monumental contribution in the field of Zoology. Professor M. Shamim Jairajpuri, INSA Scientist in the Zoology Department, Aligarh Muslim University was felicitated with the Life-time Achievement Award in Helminthology in his 50th year of research (1961-2011) for his monumental research work on Nematodes. Nematodes are worms of the large phylum nematode, having a slender, unsegmented and cylindrical body. The Vice Chancellor, Lucknow University, Professor M.K. Mishra gave away the award to Professor Jairajpuri. The Punjab University, Chandigarh also awarded Prof. Jairajpuri on his 50 year long research.

Prof. Wasim Ahmad, Department of Zoology, AMU received the prestigious Prof. S.P. Gupta Medal of the Zoological Society of India in recognition of his outstanding research and academic contribution in the field of Zoology. Prof. Ahmad is an internationally acknowledged expert on the taxonomy and ecology of nematodes and has published several books. He is also a recipient of prestigious E.K. Janaki Ammal National Award on Animal Taxonomy of the Ministry of Environment & Forests, Government of India and the Vigyan Ratan Samman of the Council of Science & Technology, Uttar Pradesh Government.
