Markazul Ma’arif Education and Research Centre (MMERC) held its 15th convocation programme at Mumbai’s Hajj House in Mumbai last week. Noted Islamic scholar Maulana Sajjad Nomani of Lucknow, chief guest at the programme, while addressing the Convocation, called upon the people to reach the peak of English speaking and writing and then conveyed the universal message of Islam to the English-knowing reading public. However, he cautioned them against getting influenced by the Western culture. “Some of the youths among you must resolve to work for the humanity. Do not use English for your material gains alone because you will commit to lose the trust of the Muslim community,” he said. Director Ajmal Group of Companies and MLA in the Assam assembly Sirajuddin Ajmal presided over the programme. Chairman Muhammad Haji Saboo Siddique Musafirkhana Trust Dr. Abdur Rauf Soomar, while calling the experience of equipping madrasa graduates with English a successful one, suggested introducing the same in other madrasas too. The convocation was attended by many leading personalities of the city including Director MMERC Maulana Burhanuddin Qasmi, the Grand Mufti of Maharashtra Mufti Azizur Rahman Fatehpuri, MLA Basheer Moosa Patel and Mahmood Daryabadi, General Secretary Ulema Council.
