After giving a few sops to the salaried class and a loan-waiver bonanza to the farmers in the Union Budget 2008 as run-up to the ensuing general elections, the Congress Party seems to be all set to delight the Bush administration also. And in the process, the Congress has prepared itself to break the wedlock with the Left parties in the UPA coalition. Dr. Manmohan Singh eulogised Atal Behari Vajpayee as ‘Bhishma Pitamah’ and asked the former Prime Minister to “listen to his conscience” and exhorted his support for the Indo-US nuclear deal. Does this signify to an unholy political alliance in the offing between the two political parties – the Congress and the BJP which have been peddling ‘Soft’ and ‘Hard’ Hindutva respectively? Anything is possible in politics!
