It is indeed shocking and surprising that Union Minister Mahavir Prasad neither resigned nor was instantly sacked from the Union Cabinet when a criminal case for conspiring a murder against him was registered under direction of Allahabad High Court. It is high time unholy nexus of crime and politics was effectively blocked so that political heavyweights might neither be allowed to hide their involvement in crimes because of their power of influence, nor be able to become political rulers or even allowed to remain in politics.

We have indeed a curious system whereby one can contest elections from behind the bars, and is allowed to represent from behind the bars for full term of the legislature. It is also surprising that a Parliamentarian (rather Union Minister) attended Parliament though absconding from arrest-warrants issued by the Courts! Should it not be compulsory and a duty for the presiding officer to hand over such an absconding person to police rather than providing unjustified shield in the temple of democracy?
