The UP government has instituted a one-member judicial inquiry to investigate the arrest of two terror accused Mohd Khalid Mujahid and Tariq Qasmi. They were allegedly detained for terror links. The decision to institute a judicial enquiry was taken after pressure was mounted by various Muslim religious leaders and Movement against Terrorism (MAT), a voluntary organisation formed to fight against the victimisation of members of the community in the name of action against terrorists. The duo were arrested by the Special Task Force sleuths on December 22 last in connection with the serial blasts in Lucknow and Faizabad court compounds on November 23 last.

According to a State Government release, the inquiry was instituted as there was a long pending demand from all quarters that Khalid and Tariq were innocent and they were not involved in any terrorist activity as claimed by the STF.
