A video of Uttar Pradesh Police Inspector Narendra Kumar Sharma has drawn wide attention after he stated that terrorism has no religion. His remarks came days after the blast near Delhi’s Red Fort that killed 13 people and triggered online hate targeting Muslims. The inspector addressed community members at Deoband police station during a meeting called to prevent tension in the area. A short clip from his speech went viral, prompting strong reactions across social media.

Sharma said a wrong person has no religion and pointed to examples of extremist violence across communities. He referred to arrests of Naxalites and other groups to underline his point. He said it is wrong to think Muslims alone are linked to terrorism. He also said the Ramayana does not ask anyone to harm another person.

Sharma said he served for 34 years without showing bias based on religion. He added that police officers hold a shared identity that rises above religious labels. He described the police work as a duty rooted in national service.

He recalled seeing exploitation of the poor at police stations and said he wanted to improve the system.

After the video spread online, the state police transferred him to the Reserve Police Lines. The Saharanpur Superintendent of Police said that there was no suspension. Sharma said his remarks were misinterpreted and that only a short section of the video was circulated.
