The Vice-President of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Prof Salim Engineer, expressed deep concern over the loss of more than 100 lives in Uttar Pradesh following storms, heavy rains, and lightning strikes across multiple districts. He extended condolences to affected families, describing the scale of destruction as severe, with damage to homes and livelihoods reported across vulnerable communities. Many of the deaths occurred due to lightning strikes, collapsing structures, and storm-related incidents.
The JIH leader noted relief measures announced by the state government, while stressing the need for stronger long-term action. He said reliance on immediate compensation doesn’t address the deeper risks faced by populations living in unsafe infrastructure.
He highlighted the need for investment in resilient housing, improved early warning systems, and stronger community awareness. He stated that extreme weather events are rising and require a shift toward prevention and preparedness rather than post-disaster response alone.
Vulnerable groups face the highest risk during such disasters, especially those living in fragile homes without access to safety systems. Hence structured planning to reduce loss of life during future climate-related events.
Raising concern over limited media coverage of the tragedy,he said the scale of human loss did not receive adequate attention in mainstream reporting, reducing public awareness of the crisis.
