The Aligarh Muslim University has recently written to the Union Ministry for Minority Affairs to turn the AMU Centre at Murshidabad into a full-fledged central university. The university also plans to start a polytechnic college from the next academic year, which will offer seven to eight vocational courses for the youth to help them bag jobs. Other courses which are run at the centre include BA LLB and B. Ed. All these courses are being run in a temporary building. “We run almost 100 courses at the main campus in Aligarh. We follow the same curriculum and also have the same academic calendar at all our AMU centres. If the campus at Murshidabad is upgraded into a central university, we shall introduce similar courses in Bengal within the next three to four years,” said VC Zamiruddin Shah at an event in Kolkata.
