The sorry state of Urdu schools in the capital needs attention. Recently Mr. Safdar H. Khan along with the director of the education department Mr. Deewan Chand visited the Urdu schools in the capital and found it to be in shambles. It was found that the medium of instruction in the Urdu schools is local language, instead of Urdu. The students of the schools are being taught by non-Urdu knowing teachers who teach the students in their own language and then it is the students who translate it into Urdu. Coming to infrastructure, there is only one water tank which fulfils the needs of 5000 students. No new benches have been bought from the past 10 years, and the students sit on the floor in the class in all the seasons, whether summer or winter. And the most shocking part of the story is that these schools are being run by the non-Urdu knowing principals for the past six years, who obviously are unaware of the requirements and needs of schools.

Mr. Khan, while showing the plight of Urdu schools, asked Mr. Deewan Chand to take some concrete steps to do away with the problems. Mr. Chand assured the Chairman that within 5-6 months the issue will be addressed and strong measures will be taken to deal with it.
