As tensions escalated following reported joint US-Israel military strikes on Iran, the Cultural House of the Islamic Republic of Iran in New Delhi hosted an Iftar, where senior Iranian officials delivered a defiant message asserting Tehran’s resolve to defend its sovereignty.
Iran’s Ambassador to India, Mohammad Fathali, condemned the attacks as a “clear act of military aggression,” declaring that Iran would never bow to foreign pressure.
“This morning, during the holy month of Ramadan, the US and the Zionist regime violated Iran’s sovereignty and territorial integrity,” he said. “They attacked targets in several cities, including defensive infrastructure and civilian areas.”
The ambassador noted that the strikes occurred while diplomatic talks between Tehran and Washington were still ongoing. “Despite our doubts based on past experience, Iran chose to continue negotiations to show the international community that Iran wants peace,” he said. “Today’s joint action proves once again that they are not reliable. Their real goal is pressure, threats, and military aggression.”
Ambassador Fathali invoked Article 51 of the UN Charter, affirming Iran’s right to self-defence. “Iran will use all necessary options to protect its territorial integrity, its independence, and the lives of its citizens,” he said. “The Armed Forces are fully prepared – just as we were ready for negotiation, we are now fully ready for defence.”
