Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar Academy, Delhi on December 10, while celebrating 144th birth anniversary of Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar, awarded Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar Award to Prof. Afshar Alam, Vice Chancellor, Jamia Hamdard; Prof Tasneem Fatima, PVC, Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI); Mr Aloke Michyari, Director YMCA and Fr. M.D. Thomas, Director, Institute of Harmony and Peace Studies for their contributions in various fields.

Almost all speakers emphasised on the need to educate youth about the struggle and contribution of Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar as a freedom fighter and his instrumental role in the establishment of JMI. Muhammad Ali Jauhar was an Indian Muslim activist, journalist and poet, and was among the leading figures of the Khilafat Movement. A product of the Aligarh Movement, Mohammad Ali Jauhar was elected President of Indian National Congress in 1923 and was also one of the founders and presidents of the All-India Muslim League.

Kunwar Danish Ali, a JMI alumnus and Member of Parliament, speaking as Chief Guest, referred to the leadership quality of Maulana Mohammad Ali Jauhar and also reminded the audience about the recent statement of Chief Justice N.V. Ramana that no big leaders have emerged from the student community in the past few decades and urged the Vice Chancellor of Jamia Hamdard and PVC JMI to strengthen the concept of Students Union otherwise the community will be deprived of good leaders in the future.
