Vice-President Inaugurates Mushawarat Golden Jubilee Celebrations

The All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat (AIMMM), while celebrating its Golden Jubilee, at the India Islamic Centre on 31 August, took stock of its journey made so far, its contribution, effects and challenges. The day-long jam packed hall marked people’s expectation and strong bonding with the organisation which encouraged Mushawarat to march ahead with renewed zeal.

The All India Muslim Majlis-e-Mushawarat (AIMMM), while celebrating its Golden Jubilee, at the India Islamic Centre on 31 August, took stock of its journey made so far, its contribution, effects and challenges. The day-long jam packed hall marked people’s expectation and strong bonding with the organisation which encouraged Mushawarat to march ahead with renewed zeal.
Vice President, M. Hamid Ansari, who was the chief guest, inaugurated the Golden Jubilee Session, and said that as a grouping of leading and most respected minds of the community, Mushawarat should go beyond looking at questions of identity and dignity in a defensive mode and explore how both can be furthered in a changing India and a changing world. Ansari also said Mushawarat should widen its ambit to hitherto unexplored or inadequately explored requirements of all segments of the community particularly women, youth and non-elite sections who together constitute the overwhelming majority.
In his welcome address, Syed Shahabuddin, former president of AIMMM, said since its formation in August 1964, the Mushawarat’s first plan was to deal with the situation after Partition marked by pools of blood across the subcontinent, mass migration and to protect the identity and the dignity of the community and build confidence to overcome the ill effects of partition and riots.
During the programme, four books on AIMMM were also released by the Vice president. The programme was divided in four sessions, after the inaugural one. In the first session, history and achievements of AIMMM was discussed, while in the second and third session issues of community and country was talked upon and the concluding session was presentation of lifetime achievement awards.
The lifetime achievement awards were given by Lt. Gen. (Retd) Zameeruddin Shah, Vice Chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University. The recipients of the award given posthumously to Dr. Syed Mahmood, Maulana Syed Abul Hasan Ali Nadvi, Mufti Ateequr Rahman Usmani, Muhammad Muslim, Ibrahim Sulaiman Sait, Dr. Maqbool Ahmad, Saiyid Hamid, Sultan Salahuddin Owaisi, Maulana Shafi Moonis and Prof. Iqbal Ahmad Ansari. One posthumous lifetime achievement award yet to be given to Dr. Abdul Jalil Faridi was also announced.
Other recipients included Prof. M. Nejatullah Siddiqui, Syed Sahabuddin, Maulana Muhammad Salim Qasmi, Dr. Kalbe Sadiq, Moosa Raza, Dr. Mumtaz Ahmad Khan, KM Arifuddin, PA Inamdar, Justice Rajinder Sachar, Teesta Setalvad, Ravi Nair, Dr John Dayal and Harsh Mander.
President of AIMMM, Dr. Zafarul Islam Khan concluded the programme with the renewed pledge to make the coming 50 years more purposeful and eventful than the past 50 years. The programme was conducted by Prof. Shakil Samdani.
