The Lower House, on 5 September, cleared the Waqf Amendment Bill unanimously. The Bill has more than hundred amendments and it will give more power to the Waqf Tribunal and Central Waqf Board. The Bill did not annul the prior surveys of the Waqf properties. According to the amended bill it is now government’s duty to maintain the list of Waqf properties while it was earlier maintained by Waqf boards. The new Bill allows non-Muslims also to donate to Waqf board for the development of their fellow citizens i.e. Minorities.
