The Anti-Corruption Bureau, on 29 June, caught red-handed the Chief Executive Officer of Maharashtra Wakf Board, ND Pathan, while he was accepting a bribe worth Rs 30,000. The ACB officers said that one Shaikh Kareem had filed a complaint with the department saying that he had taken a farm land of Wakf Board at Degaon Chawl on lease for three years. After the lease period was over, when Kareem applied for an extension, the CEO demanded a bribe of Rs 1.5 lakh. Pathan told Kareem to pay the amount in three instalments and Kareem managed to pay Rs 50,000 to Pathan last month.  However, Pathan was forcing him to pay the remaining amount soon. Being unable to pay the amount, Kareem approached the Crime Branch which laid a trap and arrested Pathan red-handed. Meanwhile, Baba Jani, a member of the Wakf Board has stated that Pathan was involved in various malpractices. He had issued several illegal NOCs to builders in Mumbai.
