New Delhi, Jan. 9:

An interaction on the current situation of Waqf was organised by Waqf Welfare Forum (WWF) at India Islamic Cultural Center here Sunday. The Forum decided to form a Legal Committee and Task Force to protect Waqf properties across India. It also decided to file a PIL in Sunehri Masjid case.

“We should be thankful that at least there are people who are saying something at a time when speaking on any issue has become almost difficult these days. There are people who want to do something for the community, society but we all have to channelize them from various fields to protect Mosques and Waqf properties,” said Imran Pratapgarhi, MP and Chairman of Minority Department of Congress Party.

Speaking as Chief Guest, the Member of Parliament said, “The litmus test was when dargah near Sunehri Masjid was demolished and there was no resistance. As a Member of Parliament, I used to often pass through Sunehri Masjid but never came across any traffic jam. If congestion is the issue, there are many places where we witness traffic jam. Why aren’t they targeted, why only Sunehri Masjid?”

The Rajya Sabha member added, “We have to protect Sunehri Masjid legally and also create some pressure groups of 200 to 300 people. We have to keep vigil for any activity or any kind of movement towards Sunehri Masjid.”

Jawed Ahmed, Chairman of WWF, emphasized that apart from legal fight it is important to have pressure groups at district level to identify, preserve and protect Waqf properties.
