After observing uneasiness and anguish among Muslim scholars and intellectuals and the whole country has come forward to oppose the statement that Waqf properties be distributed among other minorities also, the Central Minister Salman Khursheed rejected that he has not given such statement. Mr Adeeb, MP said he met Mr Khursheed at his residence and asked him regarding the statement. Mr Khursheed replied he is a Muslim and a lawyer also, how he can give such a statement. He said that the Waqf properties cannot be distributed among other than Muslims.
But the scholars say that in order to protect the Waqf properties from wrong elements Muslim organisations have to be active. Muslim Personal Law Board is taking it a direct interference of the government and their views that they want to hijack the waqf property through Salman Khursheed.
Dr Syed Zafar Mahmood, President, Zakat Foundation of India says that the word ‘community’ must be replaced in the Waqf Bill 2010 by the group of words “Muslim Community of India”. Otherwise, the Waqf properties, in addition to being widely encroached, shall no longer be available to Muslim welfare.
