Uttarakhand UCC is flawed and has been passed without consultation with the communities who would be affected, social scientists and common people. This is bad in law, a bad precedent for other States and for democracy and the country as well. It appears that it has been passed with an eye on the coming elections.

A very relevant question is, when the ruling party and especially Prime Minister Narendra Modi speak in favor of One Nation and One Law, why wasthis exercise not done by the Central Government, and why wasit initiated in one State by one government? How can India have a Uniform Civil Code if every State enacts its separate code? Do they want balkanization and destruction of this great country?

Further, why have tribals been exempted from this code? At the same time, the Code says that due importance to the customs and traditions would be guaranteed. This nullifies the purported objectives of the UCC.

A provision in this UCC ensures that with regard to inheritance, illegitimate children would be at par with legitimate children. Doesn’t it wide-open the doors of illegitimate relations in society? In this regard, we should learn a lesson from the western society. You will find that more than one-third of children there are born out of wedlock. Marriage, family life and fidelity of husband and wife for each other have no meaning for them. Love at first sight, and one night partnership and party thereafter are rampant and the family system has gone to dogs. Satisfaction of sex is the one and the only motive there.

No doubt sex is the basic instinct given to humans, but sex must be governed by a sense of responsibility. That’s why the institution of marriage has been evolved by humanity and approved, sanctioned and consecrated by all religions which believe in God and His laws. When we reject these divine laws, our society loses its moral high ground and descends down to the level of animals, who do not have any laws except the laws of the jungle. These trends and such thinking by some people may reduce humans to the level of animals and rather worse than this.

As regards the 20 crore Muslims in the country, we reject this and other similar codes which may be tried to be imposed on society in the future. We sincerely, devotedly and firmly believe that the divinely ordained laws are the best suited and most advantageous for humanity. The human life is best protected and served by them.

The duty of Muslim Ummah in the growing darkness of social and moral depravity in the world, and particularly in our country, should be fought with our moral and ethical strength. We are confident that the majority in the country will extend their cooperation to us and we will succeed in preserving the moral and ethical stature of our countrymen.
