After the change of guard in New Delhi, new hopes of development and progress raised their heads among the neglected and downtrodden people of India. But alas they are losing hope because of the atmosphere of confrontation developing in the country. There are clear indications that there may be more tensions and conflicts and political duels between the political parties and their followers.

Shortly Jharkhand and Jammu & Kashmir will go to polls. Observers feel that there is too much heat in these Assembly elections. It is to be seen whether Jharkhand falls into the BJP basket or opts for a coalition government. As regards J&K, BJP has made all arrangements that either it should be able to form its first government in the state or at least be the king maker there. There is great confusion among the voters in the State.

Next battleground under active preparation is West Bengal. The BJP has not kept it secret that it means to snatch it from Mamata Banerjee. Rabble rousing and mudslinging has already started there long before the elections. Mamata has dared the BJP to dismiss her government and arrest her. She has openly said that the BJP is at its old game of communalising the State to destabilise and capture the State. She has blamed that the Burdwan blast was a conspiracy to incite communal riots in the hitherto communally peaceful State. On their part some BJP leaders are dubbing West Bengal as the hotbed of terrorism. Mamata has retorted by saying that it was the responsibility of the Centre to safeguard the external borders of the country and not allow any foreign elements to enter West Bengal or India to indulge in terrorist activities.

Trinamool Congress has alleged that the conspiracy to destabilise West Bengal has been hatched by RSS. It questioned the sincerity of BJP in claims of efforts to unearth black money. It demanded transparency from BJP in its vast expenditure on Assembly elections in Maharashtra, and also asked how the BJP is able to spend unlimited funds in J&K and Jharkhand. It also questioned how the BJP was able to collect and spend billions of dollars in the Lok Sabha elections. It challenged the integrity of the current National Security Advisor Ajit Doval and dubbed him as a known RSS sympathiser.

This confrontation in national politics is a very bad omen which may hamper the march of the nation and undo all development plans. Confrontation must be avoided at any rate and reconciliation must be adopted for the good of the country.
