This refers to the reply given by Howard L Berman, chairman of House foreign affairs committee of the U.S. to its Congress over the Indo-U.S. nuclear deal. In explicit terms, the statement said that the deal would be off, if India conducts a nuclear test and that the “U.S. government will not assist India in the design, construction or operation of sensitive nuclear technologies”. This is contrary to what Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh had given assurance in the parliament. We still see our cabinet ministers Kapil Sibal and Pranab Mukharjee putting brave faces to the TV cameras to tell that the 123 agreement does not restrain us from conducting a nuclear test. I am confused as to who is misleading whom on such a sensitive issue.
