This agreement brings India under the US controlled nuclear activities and our nuclear programme would totally become US dependent;
The members of the NSG work under the absolute influence of the US;
The members of the NSG cannot do anything if there is a pressure from the US to halt cooperation;
The US would be able to know India’s strengths and weakness in the nuclear arena and also future potential;
The stockpiles of fissile materials can now be easily ascertained by the US. The information on the quality of fissile material available with India is still not known publicly;
All the identified reactors for peaceful purposes under the Separation plan will be coming under the purview of the IAEA Safeguards or Fallback safeguards (US safeguards if IAEA backs out);
Right to reprocessing has been granted very vaguely; actually right uncertain;
Nuclear test conducted by India would still be a taboo and the deal may break if India goes nuclear. The US has the authority to break the deal after giving notice to India. The deal can break at any given point of time if the US wants;
India’s foreign policy would be guided by the US in the strict sense of the term. The hints have already been pouring in – De-link India’s economic relations with Iran. Many such issues would come and the US would put pressure on India and ask to do many things, which would never be in India’ interest;
FMCT would limit India’s fissile materials, which may not be sufficient for India’s deterrent against China and in the long term for the US;
India’s R&D in nuclear arena would be impacted because of the private companies coming in the fray. The GOI may see that the third stage is not required because of the time and cost involved in it. The private sectors may be efficient and would provide the nuclear power at the cheaper rate than the usual GOI rates;
DAE would collapse or may exist but without sufficient work or may concentrate on India’s military programme;
India’s military programme would be impacted due to the morale of the Scientists. DAE would no more be a sacrosanct organization or be given importance;
CIRUS REACTOR has already been shut down by the current Indian government, which had produced more than half of its fissile materials available now in the Indian stockpiles;
Hence the pact is unequal and the US has the right to unilaterally terminate cooperation; and the deal provides for fallback safeguards.
