There was an immense outrage in the political and media circles when Minister for minority affairs A.R.Antulay called for a probe into the killing of the ATS chief Hemant Karkare. This reveals as to how the ghastly terror attacks in Mumbai have blinded their mindset not to look beyond the drawn conclusions. This is not the first time doubts were raised over the murder of important persons. The father of Gujarat’s former Home Minister Haren Pandya had raised suspicion over his son’s assassination. Samajwadi party General Secretary Amar Singh too had expressed doubts over the genuineness of the encounter in Jamia Nagar and went to the extent of saying that the police officer Mohan Chand Sharma, who laid down his life in the operation, could have been killed by his colleagues. Are we not aware of the police hypothesis in Arushi Talwar’s murder which claimed her father to be her killer and later declared him as innocent? There are umpteen cases where police versions proved wrong! Then how come the comments of a Cabinet minister are treated as gaffe?
