The Sir Syed Minority Foundation of India, on 22 September, organised a National Convention at Aligarh Muslim University’s Kennedy Auditorium to discuss the matter of Minority Status of the university. Delivering his presidential speech, the Vice Chancellor, Lt Gen (Retd) Zameer Uddin Shah assured that he would extend full cooperation to organisations working for the restoration of minority character of AMU. He however stressed the need for working in this direction in a unified manner so that maximum force could be exerted on the government to enact a law ensuring minority status for the university. He further added that a case pertaining to the minority status of AMU is pending before the Supreme Court of India and we should wait until the case is finalised.
