Women from different villages of Mau Nath Bhanjan district in Uttar Pradesh carried out a rally at Masrouli village of the district on 13 November to lodge their protest against rampant business of liquor. The protesting women asked the police to check the same and demanded from the government to enact a blanket ban on sale and purchase of liquor. Liquor is constantly ruining several innocent lives in the village and men, under its influence, misbehave with women. They also do not take care of their own children in a proper way, said a woman.
Earlier, several social organisations and NGOs demanded a blanket ban on sale and purchase of liquor or alcohol, but the government declined their demands every time saying it generates a hefty amount of tax which is used for the betterment of the country.
