Ladies Wing of Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Mumbai and Girls Islamic Organisation of Mumbai on April 20 jointly organised a protest against ban on wearing Niqab (Veil) in France at Azad Maidan, Mumbai and submitted a memorandum to the President of France Mr. Nicholas Sarkozy through the Consul General of France in Mumbai.

“It is highly regrettable that the head of the nation, which heralded the era of enlightenment in Europe, is punishing the innocent wearers of Hijab (Veil), a sign of modesty worn by Muslim women around the globe,” the organisers said.

“Mr. President, you cannot take away the right of a woman to cover herself, as much as she wants to, before she steps out of the house,” warned the participants.

“The ban on wearing a Hijab in public places in France is against the basic tenets of democracy and violation of fundamental rights of the individual in a plural society fashioned upon secular values.

Hijab is the protector of women, especially in the Western society where immorality is ever increasing and Modesty and Lives of women are in great danger. In this type of society nudity and immorality should be banned, not Hijab,” they asserted.

“We believe that banning Hijab in France is a part of the tirade the west has started against Islam and Muslims all over the world. It is unfortunate for the global peace and fraternity. It also exposes the double standards of the western civilization, which is a total failure and is at the brink of extinction.”
