Ameer Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Syed Jalaluddin Umari has expressed resentment over the tabling of Women’s Reservation Bill in Rajya Sabha. In a statement he said the Bill indicates empowerment of women and offer equal rights, but on the other hand it points to distance the fruitful results of the Bill to the deprived minorities and Dalits.
He said the Union Government admitted the pitiable condition of Muslims through the recommendations of Sachar Committee and Ranganath Mishra Commission, but when the time to enforce the recommendations came, the government veiled the issue through this Bill. Ameer-e-Jamaat feared that if the Bill is passed in its present form, Muslims’ representation in politics will be negligible, and that would be injustice to the principal minority of the country. He thanked the leaders and party workers who raised their voice against injustices, inside and outside the Rajya Sabha. The Maulana requested Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi not to further exploit the exploited by passing the Bill ‘as it is’. He requested the ruling Congress not to overlook the assistance given to the party by Muslims. “Representatives of Muslims and other minority communities must be consulted before the Bill is turned into a law,” he added.
