The Welfare Party of India has extended its support to the order of the Chief Information Commissioner to bring the political parties within the purview of the RTI Act. In a press statement on 5 July, party General Secretary Dr. SQR Ilyas said the political parties must view the order of the CIC from a democratic perspective. Adding that lack of interaction and transparency between public and political parties has taken away the faith of people in political establishments. Dr. Ilyas further stated that the members of the legislative bodies and ministers are decided by the parties and these members are bound to hold fast to the orders of their political masters. Since the parties exert a major role in devising vital policies that affect the nation, its wealth and the people, the people have right to know about the parties, their functioning and the sources of their resources.
