AP State Wakf Board (APSWB) on March 1 suspended mutawallis (managers) of three dargahs, including the prominent Dargah Hazrat Yusufain in Nampally. The decision was taken after the board recently noted instances of ‘mismanagement’ at these places of worship. Addressing a gathering of media persons on Saturday, APSWB special officer Shaik Mohammed Iqbal said that DHY mutawalli Faisal Ali Shah was suspended on the basis of prima facie evidence against him. Reports quoted Iqbal as saying that graves within the dargah complex were razed after which rooms were constructed.

“The mutawallis cannot demolish graves. In addition to this, a paltry sum of Rs 82,942 has been paid since 2008 as wakf fund, which is calculated as seven per cent of the income of the institution. There are 96 shops endowed to Dargah Hazrat Yusufain. We believe that this amount is very low as the dargah earns lakhs of rupees in various forms every month,” he said.
