4th Islamic Solidarity Games Held Successfully in Baku

The 4th Islamic Solidarity Games were held successfully in Baku and Azerbaijan won another victory in these competitions, said Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev on 23 May. President Aliyev made the remarks while addressing a meeting with the country’s athletes, who won the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games, their coaches, and representatives.

President Aliyev made the remarks while addressing a meeting with the country’s athletes, who won the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games, their coaches, and representatives.

He pointed out that Azerbaijani athletes won 75 gold, 50 silver and 37 bronze medals in the 4th Islamic Solidarity Games and took the lead in medal standings. President Aliyev called this a great historic victory. “These achievements demonstrate the development of the Azerbaijani state. We are proud of our athletes,” said the president.

The 4th Islamic Solidarity Games showed that the sound policy pursued in Azerbaijan and the policy in sports yielded results, President Aliyev noted.

Elkhan Alasgarov, head of the Expert Council of the Baku International Policy and Security Network said Azerbaijan was able to create an effective system for development of sports over 25 years of its independence.

Athletes from 54 countries participated in Baku 2017.
