Syed Sadatullah Husaini, President Jamaat-e-Islami Hind (JIH), released a book on the life, thoughts and works of renowned Islamic scholar Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Umari at the JIH headquarters in New Delhi on November 28. Many noted personalities attended the book launch ceremony.
Maulana Umari, who died in August this year, was also a prolific writer and former president of the JIH. The Urdu book titled Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Umari: Afkar-o-Āsar comprises articles which were presented in a two-day seminar organised in September this year by the well-known Aligarh based Islamic research institute – Idara-e-Tahqeeq-o-Tasneef-e-Islami.
During his presidential speech, highlighting Maulana Umari’s services to Islam, Mr. Husaini appreciated that articles of the seminar were brilliantly compiled. However, stressing on the need to do more work on different aspects of Maulana Umari’s written works, the JIH President urged officials of the institute to plan and prepare a list of topics to be worked on in the future.
Delivering the welcome speech, president of the institute, Dr. Muhammad Raziul Islam Nadvi expressed happiness and gratitude to Allah for publishing such a book in a very short period of time.
Speaking on this occasion, Mrs. Atiya Siddiqa, Secretary JIH Women’s Department, reminded the audience that Maulana Umari has contributed remarkable works to the society, especially those on rights of women. In the seminar too, a dedicated session was especially organised for them. She expressed satisfaction that women were too given good representation in this collection of articles.
Introducing Maulana Umari’s writings and discussing his thoughts, Dr. Hasan Raza, Chairman Indian Institute of Islamic Studies, New Delhi, analysed the contents of the book in detail and mentioned some of the articles. He reviewed Maulana’s scholarly works, highlighting new aspects.
Mr. Ashhad Rafiq Nadvi, Secretary of the institute, coordinated the ceremony and proposed vote of thanks to the guests and participants.
A noted Islamic scholar, educationist, researcher, orator, and author, Maulana Umari has penned over 45 books in the Urdu language and contributed hundreds of research articles to various journals and magazines, on different topics, including Islamic doctrines, Islamic jurisprudence, Islamic social system, human rights, contemporary challenges, and political issues. He had been president of the Jamaat-e-Islami Hind for three consecutive terms, from 2007-2019.
