Brigadier S Ahmad Ali (Retd), Pro Vice-Chancellor, Aligarh Muslim University shared his feelings with Radiance on the sad demise of Saiyid Hamid and informed that he for the first time met Saiyid Hamid, the then Administrator of Nagar Mahapalika, Allahabad, when he visited my School as the Chief Guest on the Annual Sports Day in November 1968. “We were deeply impressed with his simplicity and pleasing temperament,” he said.

“Saiyid Hamid Saheb joined the Aligarh Muslim University as the Vice-Chancellor at a very critical juncture of its history. His tenure was conspicuously marked by very tough and unwavering decisions to restore the academic ambience of the University. A man of total dedication and sincerity, he served the Aligarh Muslim University with distinction and aplomb. Not to rest on his oars, he continued to uphold the beacon of hope for the educational upliftment of Muslims when he was appointed Hony Secretary of Hamdard Education Society by Hakim Abdul Hameed Saheb.

“Besides the establishment of Jamia Hamdard, his pioneering work for creation of Hamdard Study Circle which has turned out to be the premier Coaching and Guidance Centre for the Civil Services exams will forever be remembered,” Pro Vice- Chancellor said.

According to him, he was a strong believer in Sir Syed credo “NA SATAAISH KI TAMANNA NA SILE KI PARWAH.” Saiyid Hamid Saheb was the epitome of moral values and sterling qualities. In his demise, we have lost one of the most dynamic and committed votaries of emancipation through education. The nation in general and the Alig community in particular will sorely miss him.
