APCR holds workshop in Guwahati

A two-day workshop of socio-legal workers was held at Hotel Monsoon Palace, Guwahati, under the banner of Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR), Assam Chapter on December 26 and 27 last. The resource persons of various fields trained the participants of the workshop.

The inaugural session, chaired by Mr. M. Shams Ahmed, President Jamaat-e-Islami Hind, Assam Zone (North), was addressed by as chief guest Dr. Shayam Bhadra Medhi, North-East’s representative to National Human Rights Commission. Dr. Shakil Ahmed, Director APCR also addressed the function as special guest.

The workshop was held in seven sessions and more than 50 social and legal workers of the various parts of Assam participated as delegates.

Mr. Mahtab Alam of Delhi discussed the situation of human rights in India and Dr. Shakil Ahmed discussed the responsibilities of citizens striving for justice.

Mr. Shantanu Sarkar and Ms. Baharun Saikia, both Advocates of Guwahati High Court and Rtd. IGP of Maghalaya and Ex. MP Mr. Ataur Rahman trained the participants on FIR, Case (Dispute), and Arrest respectively. While Senior Advocate of Guwahati High Court Mr. Rohini Kr. Das reviewed and remarked on the subjects.

Social activist of Barak Valley Mr. Oliullah Laskar spoke on understanding extraordinary laws (AFSPA, UAPA etc.) and conflict zones. Guest Faculty of Administrative Staff College Khanapara, Guwahati Mr. Iltab Hussain Barbara also trained the delegates.

District Magistrate of Dibrugarh, Mr. Mahmud Hussain Barbhuya addressed the concluding session.
