Association for Protection of Civil Rights (APCR) has its state chapters in 17 states: Jharkhand, Karnataka, Goa, Tamilnadu, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Gujarat, Delhi Assam, West Bengal, U.P., Uttarakhand, Bihar, Telangana, Madhya Pradesh, Kerala and Haryana, Mr. Muhammad Ahmed, Secretary APCR said in the annual report.
During 2015 and 2018 APCR Jharkhand organised about 70 socio-legal awareness workshops in the state. It also provided legal and financial help and approached NHRC, HRC Jharkhand, Minority Commission, Governor, Chief Justice of High Court, Chief Justice of Supreme Court, PMO, MoHA and President of India in the cases of Intezar Ali, Latihar mob lynching, Bansi Uraon murder, Safayer International School murder, Minhaj Ansari and Imran Khan custodial deaths, Aleemuddin mob lynching and others.
APCR helped the victims of 2016 Hazaribagh communal riots to register 32 FIRs and provided them with other rehabilitative and legal assistance.
In Karnataka, APCR provided financial support for Nisaruddin, who was released after 23 years in jail. It held State level selected activists training workshop at Bangalore and 76 District and Block level Training workshops during the year. APCR Karnataka set up nine district committees.
APCR established Chapters in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana during the last year. It is providing legal aid for victims on regular basis. It conducted 274 workshops, slum classes, college classes and classes in schools in collaboration with District Legal Aid Authority. Besides, it also established Mediation Centres with the permission of courts and settled 381 cases out of 485 registered cases through mediation. More than 300 para-legal activists were provided training and they are working in Andhra Pradesh and Telangana states.
In Telangana, APCR is working in collaboration with other organisations i.e. Awaaz, Insaaf, HRF, FBH and State/District Legal Authorities.
APCR Kerala Chapter was established in Ernakulam Friday Club Hall on January 7, 2017; 11-member state Executive Committee was formed with Advt P Chandrasekharan as President and Mr T.K.Husain as General Secretary.
One socio-legal awareness workshop was organised on September 9, 2017; APCR legal manual was translated into Malayalam. APCR is providing legal assistance in many cases like in the case of Bangalore and Thutucorine blast cases. In connection with the harassment of the youths in Kerala, APCR delegates visited the families of the victims.
In Maharashtra, APCR established 16 district units during 2015-2018. It organised 15 district level and two state level training workshops. It pursued the cases of GIO, Dr Hossam and Malegaon compensation, etc.
In Chhattisgarh, a committee was formulated with the help of headquarters, which is providing legal help and assistance for the victims and their family who were arrested in false terror cases; 13 accused got bail in UAPA cases with the help of APCR.
In Madhya Pradesh, socio-legal awareness workshops were conducted in Bhopal and Jabalpur. It is providing legal aid in the Indore-Bhopal train blast case, pursing jailbreak and police encounter case, and torture in Bhopal jail case.
Likewise, it is providing legal aid and assistance in the various other cases in other States as well.
