Jamaat-e-Islami Hind has expressed concern over the increase in communal violence incidents and has reiterated its demand from the government to pass communal violence bill so that the minorities are freed from the sense of fear and insecurity and are able to equally participate in the growth and development of the country.

Addressing a press conference in the capital on 7 September, Mr. Ejaz Ahmed Aslam, Secretary, JIH said that as Lok Sabha and Assembly elections are coming close it appears that organised efforts are being made to flare up communal tension and instigate communal conflict. He also said that in Uttar Pradesh alone there have been 50 communal conflicts in the last one year and the government response has been as usual against the perpetrators.

JIH has demanded from the Central as well as the State governments to deal with such elements and situations firmly in order to maintain peaceful atmosphere in the country.

During the press conference it was strongly said that the truth behind fake encounters are now out in the open and everybody is aware as to how and why these encounters were planned and executed by high ranking police officers and the recent revelation of Vanzara substantiate all these beliefs.

Another important issues raised in the monthly press meet were the turmoil in Egypt and Syria, depreciation of rupees and food security bill. JIH has expressed its disappointment over the dismissal of the democratically elected government in Egypt and strongly condemned barbaric and inhuman assault on the innocent people by the military junta in Egypt. JIH has appealed to all Muslim countries to stand by the people of Egypt so that democracy can prevail once again in the country. JIH is equally concerned over the war-like situation in Syria and believes that American attack will further deteriorate the deplorable situation of the people in Syria. Jamaat is not in favour of any intervention by America in Syria because America wants to attack Syria to help Israel.

At the press conference Jamaat also cautioned that the current depreciation of rupee is a symptom of a bigger disease. JIH is of the view that the solution to come out of the present economic mess lies in the fundamental approach as suggested by Islam and asked the world community to adopt the alternative system of economy which Islam presents.

Maulana Syed Jalaluddin Omari, while replying to a question, said that the Jamaat has been trying to convince various finance ministers including P Chidambaram, Pranab Mukherjee and concerned authorities in the last 50 years to adopt Islamic banking; and as per reports available, the new governor of RBI has got soft corner towards Islamic banking and we do hope that it will take place one day because the prolonged economic crisis will force the government to think in the direction.

Jamaat has welcomed the UPA’s so-called game changer food security bill as a progressive act and has expressed that the government has finally realised the right of the people but much would depend on its implementation which is paramount in helping the targeted people.
